III. Tegallalang Rice Terraces & Kopi Luwak

This was our excessive as always breakfast on the Monday morning. We were heading to Ubud for the day.

It isn't the shortest trip from Seminyak. It takes around an hour to an hour thirty depending on traffic. Be prepared to have a nap. Our driver for the day was organised by Luke. His friend had suggested this driver. We found out during the day that he was a driver for a lot of bloggers like Tuula and Rochelle Fox which was pretty cool. He was a really nice person and if you are heading to Bali I would highly recommend looking into getting a driver.

We stopped off first at the Yanyan silver shop. It is mostly just a silver gift shop but out the front you can watch the ladies crafting these intricate trinkets and decorations. It was quite relaxing watching them work. We couldn't stay for long though. This day was by far the most packed day on our whole Bali trip.

When we pulled over on the side of the road we were a little confused about these rice terraces as we couldn't really see anything. Then we crossed the road and looked down and were greeted to this overwhelming site, the Tegallalang Rice Terraces. This is a must if you visit Bali. We spent a couple of hours wandering around these terraces and it really was such a great experience.

Make sure you bring sunscreen and comfortable walking shoes. Thongs are ok but I would maybe take some sneakers.

This is the view from the other side. We walked down the hill crossed the bridge and walked up again. This place is really somewhere you need to see in person to get the full effect of it's scale.

Secret waterfalls, bamboo bridges, heaps of different paths to choose, mud for days, what isn't there to love about this place.

This is probably the largest coconut I have ever drunk out of in my life. I couldn't even finish it there was just that much coconut water in it. But you can't really argue with that natural hydration. I still don't understand how coconut water can hydrate you more then actual water.

I tried really hard to find the name of this place but I just couldn't. When we were there we just asked our driver to take us to try Kopi Luwak. It wasn't very far from the Rice Terraces.

Kopi Luwak is coffee that is made from digested coffee beans. The civet eats the coffee beans and then they come back out again because the civet can't actually digest these beans. Don't ask me why they eat them in the first place, it doesn't really make much sense. But then basically their poop is collected and eventually made in to coffee. We were demonstrated the process.

The stages of poop.

Roasting of the poop.

Different spices that can be added to the poop or made in to tea. I don't really remember why we were being shown this.

These were the tea samples we were given to try. Coconut and vanilla were my favourites.

And finally the finished product of poop coffee. To be honest it just tasted like coffee. I mean it definitely tasted better then the bali normal coffee. But lets be real, a lot of things taste better then that. It is worth a try though. Especially if you are more of a coffee connoisseur then myself. Don't bother buying a bag of the overpriced poop though because you won't be able to bring it into Sydney.
